Job summary

Placements24 seeks a Senior Telecoms Technician to join our Durban-based field team. You will install, maintain and repair fiber, copper cabling and wireless systems, delivering on-site support and expert diagnostics to minimise service disruption.

You will troubleshoot complex issues, interpret technical drawings, and mentor junior technicians while travelling within the Durban service area. A relevant telecoms/electronics qualification and 6+ years of hands-on experience are required for this

Qualifications

• Minimum of 6 years of hands-on telecoms experience.
• Proficient with fiber optics, copper cabling and wireless systems.
• Valid driver''s license and willingness to travel in Durban area.

About the Role

Our client is seeking a skilled and experienced Senior Telecoms Technician to join their technical team in Durban . This role requires a hands-on individual who can provide expert technical support for a wide range of telecommunications equipment and services. You will play a key role in the installation, maintenance, and repair of telecommunications infrastructure, ensuring minimal disruption to client services. The ideal candidate is proficient in troubleshooting complex issues, adept at working with various telecommunication systems, and dedicated to delivering high-quality technical support in a field-based capacity.

Key Responsibilities

• Install, configure, test, and maintain telecommunications systems, including fiber optics, copper cabling, and wireless infrastructure.
• Perform complex diagnostics and repairs on telecommunications equipment, identifying root causes of failures.
• Respond to service calls and technical escalations, providing prompt and effective on-site support.
• Conduct regular preventative maintenance checks to ensure optimal system performance and longevity.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior technicians within the team.
• Maintain accurate records of all installation, maintenance, and repair activities performed in Durban .

Requirements

• Relevant technical qualification or certification in Telecommunications, Electronics, or a related field.
• A minimum of 6 years of practical experience as a Telecoms Technician or similar role.
• Strong knowledge of telecommunications cabling standards, network hardware, and diagnostic tools.
• Proficiency in troubleshooting issues related to voice, data, and video communication systems.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and manuals.
• Valid driver's license and willingness to travel within the service area of Durban .
