Job summary

Placements24 seeks a Lead Telecoms Technician to oversee operations in Durban. You will lead a team of technicians, ensuring the installation, maintenance and repair of telecommunications equipment across the region.

Collaborate with project managers and clients to meet timelines and quality standards, and drive the expansion and reliability of our network in KwaZulu-Natal through hands-on leadership and disciplined field delivery.

Qualifications

• Experience leading a telecoms team in field operations.
• Strong knowledge of fiber optic splicing, testing and installation.
• Familiarity with wireless systems and antenna installations.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specs.

Responsibilities

About the Role

Our client is seeking a skilled and motivated Lead Telecoms Technician to oversee operations in Durban . You will be responsible for leading a team of technicians, ensuring the successful installation, maintenance, and repair of telecommunications equipment and infrastructure across the region. This role requires a blend of technical expertise, leadership capability, and a commitment to delivering exceptional service. You will work closely with project managers and clients to ensure project timelines and quality standards are met, playing a crucial part in the expansion and reliability of our telecommunications network in KwaZulu-Natal, embodying a hands-on approach to technical challenges and team development.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise and mentor a team of telecoms technicians, assigning tasks and monitoring performance.
• Perform complex installations, configurations, and troubleshooting of telecommunications systems, including fiber optics and wireless solutions.
• Conduct site surveys and assessments to plan and execute network deployments effectively.
• Ensure adherence to safety regulations and company policies during all field operations in Durban .
• Manage inventory of equipment and tools, ensuring adequate stock levels for ongoing projects.
• Liaise with customers to provide updates, resolve issues, and ensure satisfaction with services rendered.

Requirements

• NQF Level 4 or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related field.
• At least 5 years of experience as a Telecoms Technician, with proven experience in a leadership or supervisory role.
• Strong knowledge of fiber optic splicing, testing, and installation techniques.
• Familiarity with wireless communication systems and antenna installations.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings and specifications.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
