Job summary

Placements24 seeks an experienced Electrical Engineer specializing in Power Systems and Grid Integration in East London. You will design, model, and implement electrical systems that connect renewables to the grid, ensuring stability and compliance with interconnection standards.

The ideal candidate has ≥5 years in power systems, with proficiency in PSS/E, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, and PSCAD, plus strong communication and analytical skills to work with regulators and project teams in South Africa.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering with a Power Systems focus; Master’s degree advantageous.
• ≥5 years in power systems engineering with grid integration and renewable projects.
• Experience with protection relays, substations, and control systems.

Responsibilities

• Perform power system studies (load flow, short circuit, stability, harmonics) for grid-connected renewables.
• Develop and review grid interconnection applications and requirements.
• Design electrical systems for renewable plants ensuring compliance with grid codes and standards.
• Specify protection schemes and control systems for generators and grid interface equipment.
• Collaborate with project teams, utility engineers, and regulators to facilitate project development.
• Troubleshoot grid integration issues and optimize power system performance.
• Contribute to best practices for grid connection of distributed generation.
