Placements24 seeks a Senior Power Systems Engineer for a hybrid role in Johannesburg, focusing on integrating renewables into the grid. You will lead grid connection studies, develop advanced models, and work with utilities and regulators to ensure codes and standards are met.

The ideal candidate has 7+ years in power systems, proficiency in PSS/E/ETAP/PSCAD, and knowledge of SA grid codes and IEEE/IEC standards. Pr. Eng. preferred, ESS experience advantageous. Hybrid/flexible work environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in power systems engineering with grid integration focus.
• Proficiency in power system analysis software such as PSS/E, ETAP, PSCAD or similar.
• In-depth knowledge of SA grid codes and international standards (IEEE, IEC).
• Experience with energy storage systems (ESS) and integration into the grid is advantageous.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with meticulous attention to detail.
• Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng.) registration or eligibility is preferred.
• Familiarity with power market regulations and operational aspects.

Responsibilities

• Lead the technical analysis and design of grid connection studies for large-scale renewable energy projects.
• Develop and implement advanced power system models to assess grid impact and propose mitigation strategies.
• Collaborate with project teams, utilities, and regulatory bodies to ensure compliance with grid codes and standards.
• Conduct fault analysis, stability studies, and harmonic analysis for AC and DC systems.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers.
• Research and evaluate new technologies for grid enhancement and renewable energy integration.
• Prepare detailed technical reports, proposals, and presentations for stakeholders.
• Contribute to the development of project execution plans and technical specifications.
