Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Power Systems Engineer for a fully remote role servicing clients across South Africa. You will analyze, design, and optimize complex power systems, including generation, transmission and distribution networks, with emphasis on protection schemes and stability studies.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Electrical Engineering with specialization in Power Systems.
• 8+ years of experience in power systems engineering.
• Strong knowledge of power system protection, control, and operation.
• Experience with transmission and distribution systems design/analysis.
• Experience with renewable energy integration and grid code compliance.

Responsibilities

• Perform detailed power system analyses incl load flow, short circuit, stability, and harmonic studies.
• Design protection schemes, relay settings, and substation layouts.
• Develop and review electrical system designs for generation plants, transmission lines, and distribution networks.
• Conduct feasibility studies and provide recommendations for power system upgrades and expansions.
• Utilize advanced power system simulation software (PSS/E, ETAP, DIgSILENT PowerFactory).
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers.
• Collaborate with clients and stakeholders to define project requirements and ensure successful project delivery.
• Ensure designs comply with IEC, IEEE, SANS and other standards.
