Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a highly specialized Power Systems Electrical Engineer for a remote-first role based in Rustenburg, South Africa. The candidate will focus on design, analysis, and optimization of power generation, transmission, and distribution systems, ensuring grid reliability and efficiency.

The role requires a Master’s or PhD in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems), 6+ years of experience, and expertise in PSS/E, ETAP, and DigSILENT.

Qualifications

• Master's or PhD in Electrical Engineering with a Power Systems focus.
• 6+ years of experience in power systems engineering (analysis, design, protection).
• Proficiency in power system simulation and analysis software.
• Strong knowledge of grid codes and regulatory frameworks.
• Experience with SCADA and power system monitoring tools.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work independently.

Responsibilities

• Conduct studies on power system stability, load flow, short circuits, and transient analysis.
• Design protection schemes for substations, transmission lines, and generation facilities.
• Specify transformers, switchgear, relays, and generators.
• Perform grid interconnection studies for renewables.
• Develop strategies for grid modernization and enhancement.
• Use PSS/E, ETAP, DigSILENT for analysis and design.
• Collaborate with grid operators and project teams.
• Prepare technical reports and present findings to stakeholders.
• Provide expert technical advice on power system issues.
