About the Role

Our client, a rapidly expanding retail conglomerate, is seeking an experienced and dynamic Regional Operations Director to spearhead their expansion efforts in and around Tembisa, Gauteng. This senior leadership position is critical for establishing and managing new retail outlets, optimizing existing store performance, and ensuring a consistent brand experience across all locations. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker with a proven ability to drive growth, manage complex operations, and build high-performing teams. You will be responsible for overseeing all operational facets of the retail division within the designated region, ensuring profitability, customer satisfaction, and operational efficiency. This role requires a leader who is adept at navigating the fast-paced retail environment and is committed to achieving exceptional results in the Tembisa, Gauteng market and surrounding areas. The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping the company's future footprint.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and execute strategic operational plans for retail expansion within the Tembisa, Gauteng region, including site selection, store setup, and grand openings.
• Oversee the performance of all retail stores, setting targets for sales, profitability, and customer service, and ensuring they are met or exceeded.
• Manage regional operational budgets, controlling costs and optimizing resource allocation to maximize ROI.
• Lead, coach, and develop a team of store managers and operational staff, fostering a culture of excellence and accountability.
• Ensure consistent implementation of company policies, procedures, and brand standards across all retail locations.
• Analyze market trends and competitor activities to identify opportunities and threats, adjusting strategies as needed.
• Implement and monitor operational improvements to enhance customer experience and drive sales growth.
• Manage relationships with suppliers, landlords, and other external stakeholders within the Tembisa, Gauteng area.
• Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and legal regulations pertinent to retail operations.
• Conduct regular store audits and performance reviews to ensure operational integrity.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Business Management, Marketing, or a related field; an MBA is a significant advantage.
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in retail management, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role overseeing multiple locations or a large region.
• Demonstrated success in driving significant retail growth and managing operational P&Ls.
• Strong understanding of retail operations, merchandising, inventory management, and customer service principles.
• Proven experience in managing operational teams, including recruitment, training, and performance management.
• Excellent strategic planning, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Exceptional communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to travel extensively within the Tembisa, Gauteng region and occasional travel to national headquarters.
• Proficiency in retail management software and standard business applications.
• A deep understanding of the Tembisa, Gauteng retail market landscape.
