The ideal candidate has a National Diploma in Payroll Management with 4+ years of payroll experience, proficiency in Sage VIP/Payslip and Excel, and strong communication skills.

About the Role

Our client, a reputable national retailer, is actively seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Payroll Specialist to manage their comprehensive payroll operations. This remote position is ideal for a professional seeking to leverage their expertise in payroll processing and compliance within a dynamic and supportive environment. Based in the Durban, KwaZulu-Natal region conceptually, but operating fully remotely, the successful candidate will ensure the accurate and timely disbursement of wages for all employees. This role is critical to maintaining employee satisfaction and ensuring adherence to all relevant South African labor laws and tax regulations. We are looking for an individual with a strong work ethic and a commitment to accuracy.

Key Responsibilities

• Process multi-cycle payroll accurately and efficiently, ensuring all statutory deductions and contributions are correct.
• Manage employee data within the payroll system, including new hires, terminations, and status changes.
• Ensure compliance with the Basic Conditions of Employment Act, Labour Relations Act, and SARS regulations.
• Prepare and submit monthly payroll-related reports to management, including reconciliations.
• Handle employee payroll queries and provide timely resolutions.
• Liaise with SARS, UIF, and other statutory bodies regarding submissions and queries.
• Maintain confidentiality of all payroll and employee information.
• Continuously review and update payroll processes to ensure best practices and compliance.
• Perform payroll audits to identify and correct discrepancies.

Requirements

• National Diploma in Payroll Management, Human Resources, or a related field.
• Minimum of 4 years of hands‑on experience in payroll administration and processing.
• Proven knowledge of South African payroll legislation, tax laws (PAYE, UIF, SDL), and Bargaining Council requirements.
• Proficiency with payroll software (e.g., Sage VIP, Payslip) and Microsoft Excel.
• Strong understanding of HR policies and procedures related to payroll.
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a remote setting.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills for handling employee queries.
