Placements24 is seeking an experienced Mine Maintenance Superintendent for our client’s operations near Upington, Northern Cape. You will lead a team of technicians, engineers, and supervisors to oversee all maintenance activities for heavy mining equipment and fixed plant, implementing preventative and predictive programs to maximize uptime and reliability.

The role requires a National Diploma or Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering and at least eight years in maintenance management

About the Role

Our client, a significant contributor to the mining industry, is actively seeking an experienced Mine Maintenance Superintendent for their operations in Upington, Northern Cape . This critical role is responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of mine maintenance, ensuring the optimal performance and longevity of heavy mining equipment and fixed plant machinery. You will lead a team of maintenance personnel, implement preventative maintenance programs, manage spare parts inventory, and ensure adherence to strict safety protocols. The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical background in mechanical or electrical engineering, combined with proven leadership and management skills. Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and manage comprehensive preventative and predictive maintenance programs for all mining equipment and plant machinery.
• Supervise and lead a team of maintenance technicians, supervisors, and engineers.
• Ensure the efficient and safe execution of all maintenance activities, including planned and unplanned repairs.
• Manage the inventory of spare parts and consumables, ensuring availability and cost-effectiveness.
• Oversee the maintenance budget, controlling costs and identifying areas for efficiency improvements.
• Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations related to maintenance operations.
• Analyze equipment performance data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
• Collaborate with operations and engineering teams to minimize equipment downtime and optimize production.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation.

Requirements

• National Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum of 8 years of experience in maintenance management within the mining or heavy industrial sector.
• Proven experience managing maintenance teams and operations for large mobile equipment fleets and fixed plant.
• Strong understanding of preventative and predictive maintenance techniques (e.g., condition monitoring, lubrication analysis).
• Proficiency in maintenance management software (CMMS).
• Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
• Knowledge of safety regulations and best practices in a mining environment.
• Valid driver's license.
