Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a qualified Geotechnical Engineer for our Bloemfontein team. You will lead site investigations, perform advanced analyses, and design ground support for open pits, underground developments, and tailings facilities.

The role requires a Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering and a minimum of six years' experience in mining-related geotechnical work, with strong reporting and communication skills.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum of 6 years of relevant experience in geotechnical investigations and design, preferably within the mining industry.
• Proficiency in geotechnical analysis software such as Rocscience, FLAC, and PLAXIS.
• Strong understanding of soil mechanics, rock mechanics, and geological principles.
• Experience with tailings management and slope stability assessments.
• Excellent report writing and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Conduct site investigations, including drilling, sampling, and in-situ testing to characterize ground conditions.
• Perform detailed geotechnical analyses for open pits, underground excavations, slopes, and tunnels.
• Design and implement ground support systems and seepage control measures.
• Assess the stability of tailings dams and waste rock dumps, providing recommendations for design and management.
• Monitor geotechnical instrumentation and analyze data to assess performance and identify potential risks.
• Prepare comprehensive geotechnical reports, specifications, and design drawings.
• Provide technical guidance and support to mine planning and operations teams.
