Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a proficient Geotechnical Engineer to contribute to the stability and safety of mining operations around Upington. This role focuses on geological risk assessment, slope stability analyses for open-pit mines, and assessing underground openings.

You will perform detailed analyses, develop ground support recommendations, and contribute to monitoring programs. The ideal candidate has a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Geotechnical, Civil, or Mining Engineering and at least

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Mining Engineering.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in geotechnical engineering within the mining industry.
• Proficiency in geotechnical analysis software (e.g., Rocscience suite, GeoStudio).
• Strong understanding of soil mechanics, rock mechanics, and geological site characterization.
• Experience with field investigations, instrumentation, and data interpretation.
• Ability to work in a hybrid environment with site-based and remote teams.

Responsibilities

• Conduct geotechnical site investigations and analyze data for mine infrastructure and excavations.
• Perform slope stability analysis for open-pit mines and overburden dumps.
• Assess the stability of underground openings and recommend ground support systems.
• Develop and implement monitoring programs for geotechnical performance.
• Provide technical guidance on excavation sequencing and risk mitigation strategies.
• Prepare comprehensive geotechnical reports and present findings to project stakeholders.
