Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a seasoned Geotechnical Engineer to support mining operations near Rustenburg. You will assess ground stability, conduct site investigations, analyze geotechnical data, and provide expert recommendations to ensure safety of mine works and tailings facilities.

The role requires a Master's or PhD, ≥6 years mining experience, expertise in FLAC/PLAXIS, and familiarity with borehole data interpretation. PE registration is desirable.

Qualifications

• Master's degree or Ph.D. in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum of 6 years of relevant mining industry experience.
• Experience with numerical modeling software for slope stability and excavation analysis (FLAC, PLAXIS).
• In-depth knowledge of rock mechanics and soil mechanics principles as applied to mining.
• Experience with geophysical exploration techniques and borehole data interpretation.
• Professional Engineering (PE) or equivalent registration is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Conduct detailed geotechnical investigations and site characterization studies.
• Perform stability analyses for underground excavations, open-pit slopes, and tailings dams.
• Develop and implement ground support designs and monitoring programs.
• Advise mine planning and production teams on geotechnical risks and mitigation strategies.
• Interpret and analyze field and laboratory test data.
• Prepare comprehensive geotechnical reports and present findings to stakeholders.
