Job summary

Placements24 seeks a seasoned Geotechnical Engineer to join our client’s operations team in Rustenburg, South Africa. The role focuses on assessing geological stability of mining sites, conducting site investigations, and informing safe extraction practices.

You will work on soil and rock mechanics, slope stability, foundation design, and tailings management, reporting findings to stakeholders and collaborating with diverse site teams in demanding environments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related geological science.
• Minimum of 6 years of relevant experience in geotechnical engineering, specifically within the mining sector.
• Strong understanding of soil mechanics, rock mechanics, and hydrogeology.
• Proficiency in geotechnical software (e.g., Rocscience suite, GeoStudio) is essential.
• Experience with field investigation techniques and laboratory testing procedures.
• Ability to work effectively on-site in demanding conditions and collaborate with diverse teams.

Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive geotechnical investigations, including site characterization and sampling in mining environments .
• Perform laboratory and in-situ testing to determine soil and rock properties.
• Analyze slope stability, foundation design, and seepage control for open-pit and underground mines.
• Develop geotechnical models and provide engineering recommendations for excavation, support systems, and tailings management.
• Oversee drilling programs and field data collection, ensuring accuracy and adherence to project requirements.
• Prepare detailed geotechnical reports and present findings to project stakeholders and management.
