Placements24 is seeking a qualified Geotechnical Engineer for our Bloemfontein team. You will lead site investigations, perform advanced analyses, and design ground support for open pits, underground developments, and tailings facilities.

The role requires a Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering and a minimum of six years' experience in mining-related geotechnical work, with strong reporting and communication skills.

Qualifications

Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
Minimum of 6 years of relevant experience in geotechnical investigations and design, preferably within the mining industry.
Proficiency in geotechnical analysis software such as Rocscience, FLAC, and PLAXIS.
Strong understanding of soil mechanics, rock mechanics, and geological principles.
Experience with tailings management and slope stability assessments.
Excellent report writing and communication skills.

Responsibilities

Conduct site investigations, including drilling, sampling, and in-situ testing to characterize ground conditions.
Perform detailed geotechnical analyses for open pits, underground excavations, slopes, and tunnels.
Design and implement ground support systems and seepage control measures.
Assess the stability of tailings dams and waste rock dumps, providing recommendations for design and management.
Monitor geotechnical instrumentation and analyze data to assess performance and identify potential risks.
