Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Geotechnical Engineer to support mining operations in the Paarl region. The role involves assessing ground conditions, ensuring stability of excavations, and managing geotechnical risks for safe mine design and construction.

The ideal candidate has strong geotechnical principles applied to mining and construction with experience in site investigations. You will analyze soil and rock data, use RocScience GeoStudio, and collaborate with engineers and geologists.

Qualifications

• BSc or BEng in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering.
• Minimum 5 years of geotechnical experience in mining.
• Proficiency in Rocscience GeoStudio and related software.
• Strong knowledge of soil mechanics, rock mechanics, and foundation engineering.
• Experience with site investigation techniques and laboratory testing interpretation.
• Excellent report writing and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Conduct geotechnical site investigations, including soil and rock mass characterization.
• Analyze geotechnical data using appropriate software and provide engineering recommendations.
• Design and monitor slopes, tunnels, foundations, and other structures related to mining operations.
• Assess and manage geotechnical risks, developing mitigation strategies as needed.
• Prepare detailed geotechnical reports, specifications, and design drawings.
• Collaborate with mining engineers, geologists, and construction teams to ensure safe and stable excavations.
