About the Role

Our client, a dynamic international freight forwarding and logistics company, is seeking a highly organized and experienced Freight Forwarder and Logistics Specialist to manage operations connected to the Stellenbosch region, with a focus on efficient port logistics. This role is integral to coordinating the movement of goods across international and domestic borders, ensuring smooth customs clearance, and managing supply chain complexities. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of international trade regulations, shipping procedures, and exceptional client liaison skills. This hybrid position requires you to be present at key operational points within Stellenbosch while also allowing for remote management of administrative tasks and client communication. You will be instrumental in optimizing transit times, minimizing costs, and ensuring the secure and timely delivery of freight for our diverse clientele. Key Responsibilities

Coordinate and manage the end-to-end process of international and domestic freight forwarding, including sea, air, and road transport. Liaise with shipping lines, airlines, customs authorities, and other service providers to ensure smooth transit and clearance of goods. Prepare and process all necessary documentation, including bills of lading, customs declarations, invoices, and certificates of origin. Negotiate freight rates and service agreements with carriers and suppliers. Track shipments and provide timely updates to clients regarding their cargo status and estimated arrival times. Identify and resolve any issues or delays that may arise during the transit process. Ensure compliance with all relevant international trade laws, customs regulations, and company policies. Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, understanding their specific logistics needs and providing tailored solutions. Analyze logistics data to identify opportunities for cost savings and service improvements. Manage warehouse and distribution aspects for shipments arriving or departing through the Stellenbosch vicinity and associated ports.

Requirements

A minimum of 5 years of experience in freight forwarding, international trade, or logistics management. In-depth knowledge of shipping procedures, customs regulations, and Incoterms. Proficiency in using freight management software and standard office applications. Excellent negotiation, communication, and client relationship management skills. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet tight deadlines. Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy in documentation and data handling. Familiarity with the logistics landscape of the Western Cape , including port operations and major transport routes. A degree or professional qualification in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or International Trade is highly desirable.
