Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a highly skilled Electrical Engineer to contribute to critical power generation projects in the Polokwane region. You will design and implement electrical systems, oversee installation and testing, and ensure compliance with IEC/SANS standards while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.

The role requires 6+ years in power systems, HV experience, and proficiency with Autocad Electrical, ETAP, and PSS/E.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering is required.
• Minimum of 6 years of professional experience in electrical engineering with a focus on power generation or power systems.
• Proven experience with high‑voltage systems, protection relays, and control systems.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop electrical systems for power generation projects, including substations, distribution networks, and control systems.
• Oversee the installation, commissioning, and testing of electrical equipment and infrastructure.
• Troubleshoot and resolve electrical system faults and performance issues in power generation facilities.
• Ensure all electrical designs and installations comply with relevant national and international standards and regulations (IEC, SANS).
• Collaborate with project managers, civil engineers, and mechanical engineers to ensure seamless project execution.
• Develop technical specifications, P&IDs, single-line diagrams, and other electrical documentation.
• Conduct feasibility studies and provide technical recommendations for new projects and upgrades.
• Manage electrical contractors and vendors to ensure quality workmanship and timely completion of tasks.
• Stay updated on the latest advancements in electrical engineering, power systems technology, and renewable energy solutions.
• Contribute to the development of maintenance strategies and plans for electrical assets.

• Familiarity with SCADA systems, PLCs, and industrial automation is advantageous.
• Strong understanding of electrical codes, standards, and safety practices in power generation.
• Proficiency in electrical design software (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical, ETAP, PSS/E).
• Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and project management skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
• Ability to travel occasionally to project sites within the region.
• Must be legally authorized to work in South Africa and reside in or near Polokwane, Limpopo.
