About the Role

Our client, a distinguished engineering consultancy firm serving the energy sector, is seeking a highly accomplished Senior Electrical Engineer to contribute to their power systems design team in Polokwane, Limpopo . This role is central to the conceptualization and detailed design of robust electrical infrastructure for a variety of energy projects, including renewable energy integration, grid upgrades, and industrial power supply systems. You will be responsible for leading design efforts, ensuring technical integrity, compliance with standards, and efficient project execution. Key Responsibilities

• Lead the electrical design of power systems, including substations, transmission and distribution lines, and renewable energy interconnection facilities.
• Perform detailed power system studies, such as load flow, short circuit, stability, and arc flash analyses.
• Develop single-line diagrams, schematic diagrams, protection relaying schemes, and equipment specifications.
• Ensure designs comply with relevant national and international electrical codes, standards (e.g., IEC, IEEE), and client requirements.
• Manage and mentor junior electrical engineers and designers, providing technical guidance and review.
• Collaborate with project managers, civil/structural engineers, and other disciplines to ensure integrated project delivery.
• Conduct site visits for data collection, feasibility studies, and construction support.
• Prepare technical reports, proposals, and cost estimates for electrical systems.
• Review contractor submittals and provide technical support during the construction and commissioning phases.
• Stay current with emerging technologies and industry best practices in electrical power systems engineering.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, with a specialization in Power Systems.
• A minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in electrical power systems design and analysis.
• Proven experience in designing medium and high voltage electrical infrastructure.
• Proficiency in power system analysis software (e.g., PSS/E, ETAP, CYME, DigSilent).
• Strong understanding of protection and control systems for power networks.
• Experience with renewable energy integration, including solar PV and wind power, is highly desirable.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare and present technical documentation.
• Registered Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng.) with ECSA or eligibility for registration is a strong advantage.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
