Placements24 is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer with a focus on power generation and distribution for a role in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga. You will design and optimize electrical systems, specify equipment, and perform detailed studies to ensure reliable power delivery across projects ranging from new plants to upgrades.

The ideal candidate brings 5+ years in power systems, hands-on HV experience, and proficiency in ETAP, PSS/E, and DIgSILENT.

Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering with Power Systems.
• Minimum 5 years of electrical engineering experience focused on power generation and/or distribution.
• Proficiency in ETAP, PSS/E, and DIgSILENT.
• Experience with high-voltage equipment and protection systems.
• Understanding of power plant operations or utility distribution networks.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
• Ability to work in a team and manage multiple tasks.
• Pr.Eng registration is a plus.
• Willingness to undertake site visits.

Responsibilities

• Design and engineer electrical systems for power generation plants and distribution networks.
• Specify electrical equipment including generators, transformers, switchgear, protection relays, and cabling.
• Develop detailed electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, and site layout plans.
• Perform power system studies, including load flow, short circuit, transient stability, and protection coordination analysis.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant national and international electrical codes, standards, and regulations (e.g., SANS, IEC).
• Provide technical support during the construction, commissioning, and testing phases of electrical projects.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex electrical issues in generation and distribution systems.
• Collaborate with civil, mechanical, and control engineers to ensure integrated design solutions.
• Review vendor submittals and technical proposals for electrical equipment.
• Contribute to the development of maintenance strategies and operational improvements for electrical assets.
