About the Role

Our client, a leading engineering consultancy specializing in power and infrastructure projects, is seeking an experienced Senior Electrical Engineer to join their team in Polokwane, Limpopo . This challenging role involves leading the design, development, and implementation of electrical systems for a variety of complex projects, including substations, power distribution networks, and industrial facilities. You will be responsible for ensuring the reliability, safety, and efficiency of electrical infrastructure. This hybrid role offers the flexibility to work both on-site and remotely, engaging with project teams and clients through advanced communication tools.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the electrical design for power generation, transmission, and distribution projects, including substations, overhead lines, and underground cabling. Develop detailed electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, control system designs, and specifications. Perform load flow, fault level, and protection coordination studies using specialized software. Specify electrical equipment, including transformers, switchgear, cables, and protection relays. Ensure designs comply with relevant industry standards (e.g., SANS, NRS specifications), codes, and safety regulations. Manage electrical engineering aspects of projects, including scope, schedule, budget, and risk. Liaise with clients, project managers, other disciplines, and contractors to ensure seamless project execution. Oversee site installation, commissioning, and testing of electrical systems. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior electrical engineers and technicians. Conduct site inspections and investigations as required. Review vendor documentation and submittals for electrical equipment and systems. Contribute to proposal preparation and business development activities.

Requirements

BEng or BSc in Electrical Engineering. Professional registration with ECSA as a Professional Engineer (Pr.Eng.) is mandatory. A minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in the design and management of electrical power systems and infrastructure projects. Proficiency in electrical design and simulation software (e.g., ETAP, PSS/E, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, AutoCAD). Strong knowledge of power system protection, control systems, and earthing design. Experience with project management methodologies and contract administration. Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. Willingness to travel to project sites as required. Understanding of renewable energy integration and grid connection requirements is an advantage.
