Placements24 is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer for our renewable energy client in Polokwane, Limpopo. You will lead electrical design across solar, wind and hybrid projects, developing schematics, protection schemes, and grid interconnection strategies. You will mentor junior engineers and collaborate across disciplines to ensure safe, efficient energy systems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering is required.
• Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng.) registration with ECSA is required.
• Minimum 7 years of experience in electrical engineering focusing on power systems and renewable energy projects.
• Experience in grid-connected renewable energy design and implementation.
• Proficiency with electrical design software such as AutoCAD Electrical, ETAP, and PVSyst.

Responsibilities

• Lead electrical design and engineering for renewable energy projects (solar PV, wind, and hybrids).
• Create single-line diagrams, electrical schematics, panel layouts, and wiring diagrams.
• Perform load calculations, power studies, and protection design.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the electrical design and engineering for renewable energy projects, including solar PV farms, wind energy installations, and hybrid systems.
• Develop single-line diagrams, electrical schematics, panel layouts, and wiring diagrams.
• Perform load calculations, power studies, and system protection design.
• Specify electrical equipment, including transformers, switchgear, inverters, cables, and control systems.
• Ensure designs comply with relevant electrical codes, standards (e.g., SANS, IEC), and grid interconnection requirements.
• Collaborate with mechanical engineers, civil engineers, and other disciplines to ensure integrated project design.
• Manage electrical contractors during the construction phase, overseeing installation, commissioning, and testing.
• Troubleshoot and resolve electrical issues encountered during project execution and operation.
• Prepare technical specifications, tender documents, and cost estimates for electrical components and systems.
• Conduct site surveys and assessments to gather necessary data for design.
• Provide technical support and mentorship to junior electrical engineers.
• Stay current with advancements in renewable energy technologies and electrical engineering practices.

Requirements

• A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering.
• Professional Engineer (Pr. Eng.) registration with ECSA is required.
• A minimum of 7 years of experience in electrical engineering, with a significant focus on power systems and renewable energy projects.
• Proven experience in the design and implementation of grid-connected renewable energy systems.
• Proficiency in electrical design software (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical, ETAP, PVSyst) and simulation tools.
