Job summary

Placements24 is assisting a major mining house near Klerksdorp, North West, in recruiting a Chief Surveyor to lead the mining survey department. The role focuses on precise spatial data, mine planning, and compliance with legal boundaries and safety standards.

The Chief Surveyor will manage a team of mine surveyors, implement advanced technology (including 3D laser scanning, drone surveying), and ensure high accuracy and reliability of survey data across underground and surface operations.

Qualifications

• National Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Surveying or Geomatics.
• Professional registration as a Professional Mine Surveyor (Pr.M.Surv) with SAGC is mandatory.
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in mine surveying, with underground hard-rock emphasis.
• Proven experience leading a surveying team/department.
• Experience with AutoCAD, Surpac, Deswik or similar surveying software.

Responsibilities

• Direct all mine surveying activities, underground and surface.
• Develop and implement survey plans and procedures for operations.
• Establish and maintain survey control networks accurately.
• Perform complex surveys for development, stope alignment, volumetrics, and reconciliation.
• Create and maintain mine plans, sections, and geological models from survey data.
• Mentor junior surveyors and ensure adherence to standards.
• Operate and maintain total stations, GPS/GNSS, and laser scanners.
• Ensure compliance with SA mining surveying laws and regulations.
• Collaborate with geologists, engineers, and mine management on survey issues.
• Maintain survey databases and data integrity.
