Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Chief Mine Surveyor near Pretoria to lead the survey department. The role requires establishing and maintaining legal and operational survey boundaries, ensuring accurate mine modeling, and delivering spatial data for planning and execution.

You will manage a team of surveyors, implement advanced surveying technologies such as total stations, GPS, laser scanners and drones, and ensure compliance with South African mining legislation.

Qualifications

• Professional Land Surveyor qualification required.
• Registration with a recognized body is essential.
• Minimum 10 years in mine surveying with 5+ years in leadership roles.
• Expertise in underground and surface surveying techniques.
• Proficiency with surveying software and hardware.
• Solid knowledge of SA mining legislations.

Responsibilities

• Manage and oversee all underground and surface mine surveying activities, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
• Establish and maintain mine boundaries, grids, and control networks using modern surveying equipment and techniques.
• Prepare and certify mine plans, sections, and volumes for regulatory submission and operational use.
• Implement and manage total stations, GPS, laser scanners, and drones for data acquisition.
• Provide accurate spatial data and analysis to mine planning, engineering, and operations teams.
• Supervise, train, and mentor junior surveyors and survey technicians.
