Placements24 invites applications for a Chief Mine Surveyor role in Rustenburg, North West. The successful candidate will oversee all survey activities, lead a team of surveyors, and ensure data accuracy for mine planning, development, and production.

Underground and surface surveying expertise, plus regulatory compliance, are essential. The position requires a National Diploma or Bachelors in Mine Surveying/Geomatics, professional registration, and 8+ years in mine surveying with leadership

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in mine surveying with at least 3 years in a supervisory or leadership role.
• Experience in underground and surface mining surveying, with platinum or coal exposure preferred.
• Professional registration with a relevant body (e.g., South African Geomatics Council).
• National Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Mine Surveying or Geomatics Engineering.
• Valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Manage and direct all mine surveying operations (underground, surface, and aerial).
• Ensure accuracy and integrity of survey data, plans and reports.
• Develop and implement survey control networks and procedures for developments and existing operations.
• Utilize and maintain surveying equipment and software (total stations, GPS, laser scanners, CAD, and mine planning software).
• Collaborate with geologists, engineers and mine planners to provide spatial data for decision-making.
• Conduct volumetric calculations, stockpile surveys, and as-built surveys.
• Ensure compliance with Minerals Act and related regulations.
• Train, mentor and supervise a team of mine surveyors and survey technicians.
• Maintain survey records and archives per company policies and regulatory requirements.
• Promote and enforce a strong safety culture within the survey department.
