Job summary

Placements24 seeks a capable Chemical Process Design Engineer for their Upington facility. You will translate concepts into detailed engineering plans, ensuring safety, scalability and economic viability for new and existing products.

Responsibilities include designing PFDs and P&IDs, performing simulations, and collaborating with project teams during implementation. A Bachelor's in Chemical Engineering and 4+ years of experience with Aspen Plus/HYSYS are required.

About the Role

Our client is seeking a creative and technically adept Chemical Process Design Engineer for their facility in Upington . This role is central to developing innovative and efficient chemical processes for new and existing products. You will be responsible for translating conceptual designs into detailed engineering plans, ensuring scalability, safety, and economic viability. This hands‑on position offers the opportunity to shape process development within a key industrial hub in the Northern Cape .

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop new chemical processes, from conceptualization through to detailed engineering.
• Create process flow diagrams (PFDs), piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), and equipment specifications.
• Perform process simulations and calculations to optimize designs and ensure performance criteria are met.
• Conduct feasibility studies and economic evaluations for proposed process designs.
• Ensure designs comply with all safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.
• Collaborate with project managers, construction teams, and operations personnel during the implementation phase.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering .
• Minimum of 4 years of experience in process design and development.
• Proficiency in process simulation software (e.g., Aspen Plus, HYSYS) and CAD tools.
• Strong understanding of chemical reaction engineering, thermodynamics, and separation processes.
• Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
• Effective communication and collaboration skills for working within the Upington team.
