Job summary

Placements24 in Stellenbosch is seeking a Process Design Chemical Engineer to lead conceptualization, development, and detailed design of new and improved chemical processes and plant layouts within their facilities.

You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to translate client needs into safe, economical solutions, perform process calculations, and prepare specifications for procurement and construction.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

About the Role

Our client is looking for a talented Process Design Chemical Engineer to contribute to innovative projects within their facilities in Stellenbosch . This role focuses on the conceptualization, development, and detailed design of new and improved chemical processes and plant layouts. You will work with a multidisciplinary team to translate client needs and internal requirements into efficient, safe, and economically viable process solutions. Key Responsibilities

• Develop process flow diagrams (PFDs) and Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) for new and existing processes.
• Perform process calculations, including mass and energy balances, equipment sizing, and hydraulic calculations.
• Conduct feasibility studies and conceptual design work for process modifications and new installations.
• Select appropriate process equipment and ensure adherence to design specifications and safety standards.
• Collaborate with engineers from other disciplines (mechanical, electrical, civil) to integrate process designs.
• Prepare technical specifications and documentation for procurement and construction phases.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemical Engineering.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in process design and engineering for chemical plants.
• Proficiency in process simulation software (e.g., Aspen HYSYS, CHEMCAD).
• Strong understanding of process safety principles and hazard identification.
• Experience with international design codes and standards (e.g., ASME, API).
• Excellent technical drawing interpretation and communication skills.
