Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemical Engineering.
• 7+ years in process design engineering in chemical/petrochemical sectors.
• Proficiency with process simulation software (Aspen Plus, HYSYS) and CAD tools.
• Strong knowledge of unit operations, thermodynamics, and fluid mechanics.
• Familiar with process safety principles and risk assessment.
• Excellent writing, presentation, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop PFDs and P&IDs for new plants or modifications.
• Perform mass and energy balances, equipment sizing and selection.
• Conduct feasibility studies and simulations to optimize designs.
• Ensure compliance with standards, safety and environmental requirements.
• Collaborate with project managers and other disciplines for integrated delivery.

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly skilled Chemical Process Design Engineer to contribute to their advanced engineering projects in Sandton . This role involves the conceptualization, design, and development of innovative chemical processes and plant layouts. You will utilize your expertise in chemical engineering to translate client needs and technical requirements into functional, efficient, and safe process designs. This position offers the opportunity to work on diverse projects, pushing the boundaries of chemical process technology and contributing to significant industrial developments in Gauteng.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop process flow diagrams (PFDs) and piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs) for new chemical plants and process modifications.
• Perform mass and energy balance calculations, equipment sizing, and selection for various unit operations.
• Conduct feasibility studies and process simulations to evaluate different design options and optimize performance.
• Ensure designs comply with all relevant engineering standards, safety regulations, and environmental requirements.
• Collaborate with project managers, clients, and other engineering disciplines (mechanical, electrical, civil) to ensure integrated project delivery.
• Prepare technical specifications for equipment procurement and construction.
• Provide technical support during the construction and commissioning phases of projects.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemical Engineering .
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in process design engineering within the chemical, petrochemical, or related industries.
• Proficiency in process simulation software (e.g., Aspen Plus, HYSYS) and CAD tools.
