Job summary

EdUpStairs seeks a pragmatic maintenance Artisan for West Coast TB Centre at Sonstraal Hospital, Malmesbury. You will perform ad-hoc repairs, preventive maintenance, and supervise service providers to keep plant and equipment in optimal condition.

You must have Grade 10, a valid Code B/EB/C driver’s license, and be physically fit for heights and confined spaces. Overtime, standby duties, and weekend work may be required.

Qualifications

• Grade 10 or equivalent qualification.
• Experience in repairs and maintenance of hospital equipment or facility systems.
• Valid Code B/EB/C driver’s license.
• Physical fitness for heights, confined spaces, and standby/overtime duties.
• Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act 1993 and regulations.

Responsibilities

• Carry out ad-hoc maintenance and repair requests on hospital plant and equipment.
• Follow preventative maintenance protocols and maintain facilities within the subdistrict.
• Carry out daily checks on generators and oxygen machinery as per schedule.
• Assist with managing contractors and service providers under supervision.
• Ensure organized workshop, stock control, and accurate record keeping.

Job description

Centre: West Coast TB Centre (Based at Sonstraal Hospital, Malmesbury)

Requirements

Minimum Educational qualification: Grade 10 (or equivalent). Experience: Appropriate experience in at least one of these fields: repairs and maintenance
of hospital equipment, infrastructure, painting, air-conditioning, refrigeration, plumbing, electrical, carpentry. Inherent requirements of the job: Valid (Code
B/EB/C) driver’s license.
Physically fit to perform duties, work at heights and in confined spaces.
Must be prepared to work overtime and perform standby duties after hours, including weekends and Public Holidays.
Competencies (knowledge/skills): Adherence to the Occupational Health and Safety Act 1993 and its relevant regulations.

Duties

Carry out ad-hoc maintenance and repair requests, perform or arrange preventative maintenance on plant and equipment, follow emergency
maintenance protocols, at the hospital and health facilities within the subdistrict under supervision of the Artisan.
Carry out daily checks on generator, oxygen, and other machinery, adhere to the maintenance schedule for all
facilities, and do regular facility inspections.
Provide specifications under the supervision of the Artisan for service provider jobs, attend site meetings and
manage contractors.
Ensure an organised neat workshop, efficient and effective management and control of stock, tools, equipment, and perform
administrative duties.
Ensure excellent record keeping.
Assist with the management and supervision of the maintenance team reporting to the Artisan Assistant.
Provide assistance and support to Artisan, managers, supervisor and colleagues.
