Job summary

YMCA of San Diego County is seeking a Youth Development Teacher to lead activities for children aged 5-12 in a Community Care licensed before/after-school setting at a YMCA facility or local elementary school.

You will supervise participants, plan engaging activities, and coordinate with school and community partners to deliver high-quality academic and recreational experiences. CPR/First Aid and TB screenings are required within specified timeframes.

Qualifications

  • Must be 18 years or older and a high school graduate.
  • Completion, with passing grades, of 12 units in Child Development (CD) or related field.
  • Completion, with passing grades, of 6 units with 6 more units of current enrollment in CD or related field.
  • Minimum of 6 months working with children 5-12 preferred.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to speak, read, and write English.

Responsibilities

  • Implement age-appropriate program activities for 5-12 year olds.
  • Actively supervise participants ensuring safety at all times.
  • Communicate professionally with participants, families, school staff and partners.
  • Collaborate with school personnel and partners to align academic activities.
  • Provide positive behavior guidance supporting developmental needs.
  • Ensure program meets YMCA-San Diego County requirements.
  • Maintain space to be clean and safe; follow emergency procedures.
  • Provide leadership to assigned YMCA Youth Development Aide.
