Job summary

YMCA of San Diego County is seeking a Youth Development Teacher to work with children ages 5-12 in a community care setting at a YMCA facility or school site. You will lead activities, supervise youth, and foster growth in a safe, supportive environment under the Site Supervisor.

The role emphasizes collaboration with schools and families to deliver high-quality programs. The candidate should have a high school diploma, 12 units in Child Development (or related field), and relevant experience;

Qualifications

• Must be 18+ years old and high school graduate.
• Completion of 12 units in Child Development or related field.
• Minimum 6 months experience in child/youth development preferred.
• Basic computer skills and ability to speak/read English. Additional languages desirable.
• Criminal history clearance as per guidelines.
• TB test results current within 1 year; immunizations required.
• Pediatric CPR and Pediatric First Aid certification within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Implement age-appropriate program activities.
• Actively supervise participants ensuring safety.
• Communicate with participants, families, school staff, and partners.
• Collaborate with school personnel to align academic activities.
• Provide positive behavior guidance for students.
• Ensure program meets YMCA requirements.
• Maintain space and cleanliness; follow safety procedures.
• Lead assigned YMCA Youth Development staff.
• Be dependable and adaptable to daily schedule changes.
• Respond to emergencies and support participants and staff.
