Job summary

The YMCA of San Diego County is seeking a Youth Development Teacher to work with children ages 5–12 in a community care setting at a YMCA facility or local elementary school site. You will help youth learn, grow, and develop through structured and informal activities.

Under the Site Supervisor, you will plan and supervise activities, ensure safety, communicate with families and school staff, and lead a team of Youth Development Aides. This role requires dependability and flexibility.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years or older and a high school graduate.
• Completion of 12 CD units (or related field) with passing grades.
• Completion, with passing grades, of 6 units plus 6 more units in CD or related field will be considered.

Responsibilities

• Implement age-appropriate program activities for 5–12 year olds.
• Actively supervise participants ensuring safety and guidance at all times.
• Communicate professionally with participants, families, school/district personnel, and partners.
• Collaborate with school personnel to align academic activities and student services.
• Provide positive behavior guidance supporting developmental, social-emotional, and physical needs.

Education

12 units in Child Development (CD) or related field

6 units + 6 units current enrollment in CD or related field

Basic computer skills; English literacy
