Job summary

YMCA of San Diego County is seeking a Youth Development Teacher to lead activities and supervise 5-12 year olds in a licensed before/after-school environment at a YMCA facility or school site.

You will work under the Site Supervisor to plan and implement engaging programs, ensuring safety and positive growth for all participants, with a schedule including afternoons and some flexibility for events.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age or older and a high school graduate.
• Completion, with passing grades, of 12 units in Child Development or related field.
• Minimum of 6 months working in a child and youth development setting preferred.
• Basic computer skills and ability to speak, read, and write English. Other languages are a plus.
• Criminal history clearance and required immunizations per YMCA and licensing guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Implement age-appropriate activities that engage students and align with YMCA goals.
• Actively supervise participants to ensure safety at all times.
• Communicate professionally with participants, families, school and district personnel, and partners.
• Collaborate with school staff to align high-quality academic activities.
• Provide positive behavior guidance supporting developmental needs.
• Ensure program meets YMCA requirements and maintains a safe space.
• Perform daily housekeeping to keep spaces organized and clean.
• Follow emergency procedures to safeguard participants and staff.
• Lead YMCA Youth Development Aide and provide mentorship.
• Be flexible with daily schedules and respond to changes as needed.
• Lead sports, games, and curriculum activities with youth.
