Job summary

YMCA of San Diego County is seeking a Youth Development Teacher to guide and supervise after-school activities for children aged 5–12 in a safe, supportive environment. The role emphasizes age-appropriate programming and collaboration with school staff to align academic activities with YMCA goals.

The position requires reliable, flexible scheduling and CPR/First Aid readiness; you will lead a small team and foster positive youth development with a focus on safety and engagement.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age or older and a high school graduate.
• 12 units in Child Development (CD) or related field with passing grades; 6 units with 6 more units will be considered.

Responsibilities

• Implement age-appropriate program activities engaging 5–12 year olds in meaningful experiences per YMCA goals.
• Actively supervise participants ensuring guidance and safety at all times.
• Communicate professionally with participants, families, schools, and community partners.
• Collaborate with school personnel and partners to align high quality academic activities.
• Provide positive behavior guidance supporting developmental, social-emotional, and physical needs.
• Ensure program meets YMCA of San Diego County requirements.
• Perform daily duties to keep space clean, organized, and safe.
• Follow emergency procedures to protect participants and staff.
• Provide leadership to assigned YMCA Youth Development Aide.
• Be dependable and flexible with changes to daily schedules.
• Demonstrate ability to respond to incidents and manage activities.
