Job summary

YMCA of Greater Houston is seeking a Youth Development Leader for our Before/After School and Day Camp programs in Texas. You’ll deliver energy, safety, and engaging activities, helping children grow and feel valued.

You’ll supervise activities, lead age-appropriate projects, and uphold YMCA values in a fast-paced, outdoor/indoor environment. Pending background checks, you’ll contribute to a supportive community and flexible scheduling.

Qualifications

• At least 18 years old.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Six months of experience working with youth in a licensed facility, school, church, or similar setting.
• CPR, First Aid, AED, and Child Abuse Prevention training (or willingness to obtain).
• Ability to plan and lead age-appropriate activities.
• Experience working with diverse populations.
• Ability to pass state/local background checks and fingerprinting.
• TB test and any required immunizations per state/local guidelines.

Responsibilities

• As a Youth Development Leader, bring energy, creativity, and compassion to before/after-school and day camp programs.
• Help create a safe, fun, and enriching environment where youth feel supported, valued, and excited to learn.
• Champion safety and supervision: monitor activities, conduct headcounts, and respond using YMCA policies and training.
• Guide positive behavior with inclusive, age-appropriate management techniques.
• Lead fun and meaningful activities by bringing the YMCA curriculum to life through games, projects, and hands-on learning.
• Model YMCA values: honesty, respect, responsibility, caring, and faith.
• Support daily operations by maintaining a clean, organized, and safe space that meets standards.
• Build strong relationships with children, families, school staff, and YMCA team.
