Job summary

YMCA of Greater Houston is seeking a Youth Development Leader to support before/after-school and day camp programs. You will create a safe, fun, and enriching environment for youth, guided by YMCA values, while building strong relationships with families and staff.

Responsibilities include supervising activities, leading age-appropriate programming, and ensuring program quality and safety in line with licensing standards.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old
• High school diploma or GED required
• Six months of youth experience in licensed setting, school, church, or similar
• CPR, First Aid, AED, and Child Abuse Prevention training (or willingness to obtain)
• Ability to plan and lead age-appropriate activities
• Experience working with diverse populations
• Ability to pass state/local background checks and fingerprinting
• TB test and any required immunizations per state/local guidelines

Responsibilities

• Keep children safe, engaged, and accounted for at all times; monitor activities and headcounts
• Foster a welcoming environment using positive behavior-management techniques
• Lead games, projects, and hands-on learning; adapt activities for diverse needs
• Model YMCA values: honesty, respect, responsibility, caring, faith
• Support daily operations and maintain a clean, safe program space
• Build relationships with children, families, school staff, and YMCA team
• Ensure proper sign-in/out procedures and vigilant supervision of all areas
