Job summary

The YMCA of Greater Houston is seeking a Youth Development Leader for our Before/After School Programs and Day Camp. You will bring energy, creativity, and compassion to create a safe, engaging environment where youth feel valued and supported.

You’ll monitor activities, lead diverse activities, and liaise with families and school staff to ensure high-quality care and development for children.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Six months of experience working with youth in a licensed facility, school, church, or similar setting.
• CPR, First Aid, AED, and Child Abuse Prevention training (or willingness to obtain).
• Ability to plan and lead age‑appropriate activities.
• Ability to pass state/local background checks and fingerprinting.
• TB test and any required immunizations per state/local guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Create a safe, fun, and enriching environment for youth.
• Monitor activities, conduct headcounts, and follow YMCA policies.
• Lead age-appropriate activities with energy and creativity.
• Support daily operations and maintain a clean program space.
• Build positive relationships with children, families, and staff.
• Follow child-protection policies and sign-in/out procedures.
• Communicate effectively with school staff and YMCA team.
