Job summary

The YMCA of Greater Houston is seeking a Youth Development Leader to energize before/after school and day camp programs. You’ll create a safe, fun, and enriching environment where youth feel supported, valued, and excited to learn. Join a mission-driven team and help families grow together.

Responsibilities include supervising children, leading activities, and upholding YMCA values while maintaining program safety and daily operations. Training and certifications are part of the role.

Qualifications

• At least 18 years old.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Six months of experience working with youth in a licensed facility, school, church, or similar setting.
• CPR, First Aid, AED, and Child Abuse Prevention training (or willingness to obtain).
• Ability to plan and lead age-appropriate activities.
• Experience working with diverse populations.
• Ability to pass state/local background checks and fingerprinting.
• TB test and any required immunizations per state/local guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Keep children safe, engaged, and accounted for at all times; monitor activities and conduct headcounts.
• Foster a welcoming environment using positive behavior-management techniques.
• Lead games, projects, and hands-on learning aligned with YMCA curriculum.
• Demonstrate YMCA values: honesty, respect, responsibility, caring, and faith.
• Support daily operations to maintain a clean, safe program space.
• Build strong relationships with children, families, school staff, and YMCA team.
• Follow child-protection policies and ensure proper sign-in/out procedures.
