Job summary

The YMCA of Greater Houston is seeking a Youth Development Leader to support before/after school programs and day camp. You will create a safe, fun, and enriching environment where youth feel valued and supported, while building relationships with families and staff.

You’ll promote safety, lead activities, and model YMCA values in a fast-paced, hands-on role that requires energy, compassion, and teamwork. This position offers part-time hours and active community involvement.

Qualifications

• Minimum 18 years old.
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Six months of experience with youth in licensed facility, school, church, or similar setting.
• CPR, First Aid, AED, and Child Abuse Prevention training (or willingness to obtain).
• Ability to plan and lead age-appropriate activities.
• Experience working with diverse populations.
• Pass state/local background checks and fingerprinting.
• TB test and required immunizations per state/local guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Maintain safety, supervision, and headcounts for children in activities.
• Foster a welcoming and inclusive environment using positive behavior-management techniques.
• Lead engaging, age-appropriate activities and adapt to diverse needs.
• Model YMCA values: honesty, respect, responsibility, caring, and faith.
• Support daily operations and ensure clean, organized program spaces.
• Build strong relationships with children, families, school staff, and YMCA team.
• Protect youth by following all child-protection policies and sign-in/out procedures.
