Job summary

The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) seeks Seasonal Winter Program Workers to perform snow and ice removal and highway maintenance across Indiana. A CDL is required and duties include operating snowplows, traffic signs, and pavement markings, with open interviews on October 6, 2026.

Starting pay is $21.00 per hour, with a $250 sign-on bonus for start dates shown and a $500 retention bonus for those hired by 12/7/26 and remaining through 3/27/27.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or high school equivalent preferred.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Class A or Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
• Required to submit to and pass a drug test as a condition of employment.
• Must be able to move 50 pounds.
• Must be able to perform physical activities such as lifting, dragging, stooping, standing, and walking for long periods.
• Must be able to endure exposure to inclement weather.
• Must be able to operate specialty traffic equipment (e.g. bucket trucks, paint equipment, etc.).
• Must be able to follow directions and work as part of a team.
• Must be able to work unpredictable and non-traditional hours as necessary to perform winter operations activities.
• Able to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Responsibilities

• Operate highway maintenance and traffic equipment to maintain, repair, and clean highways and right-of-way.
• Move and load supplies and materials.
• Winter operation duties including snow and ice removal.
• Perform emergency response activities such as clean-up, traffic control, lane closures, placement of signs, and erecting barricades.
• Perform equipment maintenance such as minor repairs, preventative maintenance, refueling, and pre-trip inspections.
• Comply with INDOT Safety Policies and Procedures.
• Perform job documentation tasks such as entry into the Work Management System (WMS).
