Job summary

The Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) in Reno is seeking Highway Maintenance Worker 2 for the District II winter season, including Reno and Mt Rose. The role involves routine maintenance, snowplow operation, anti-icing, and basic equipment upkeep under inclement weather.

Position is on-site with no remote option. Applicants must meet essential qualifications and may progress with training; CDL is required within six months of appointment.

Qualifications

• One year of experience performing basic highway maintenance work; OR one year of experience as a Highway Maintenance Worker I in Nevada State service.
• Operate and perform preventive maintenance and minor repair on highway maintenance equipment such as rotary snowplow, motor grader, backhoe.
• Establish traffic controls and reroute traffic in maintenance areas and construction zones.
• Maintain landscaping along the highway right-of-way and repair/replace signs and sign panels.
• Respond to emergencies and incidents outside normal hours; follow safety policies.

Responsibilities

• Operate and perform preventive maintenance and minor repair on a variety of highway maintenance equipment.
• Install, repair, and replace roadway signs and signposts; repair bulbs and sensors on sign structures.
• Monitor contract compliance and quality control including testing and completed work by contractors.
• Maintain landscaped areas and the highway right-of-way; remove debris and hazards.
• Respond to accidents and emergencies and complete required forms and documentation.
