Job summary

The Nevada Department of Transportation is recruiting Highway Maintenance Worker 2 to cover District II Hawthorne, Fallon, Wellington, and Yerington for the Winter Season. Incumbents perform routine maintenance, winter snowplow operations, anti-icing activities, and summer improvement projects on-site.

Positions may require working in inclement weather and are not remote. Appointments are for a winter/summer season, not exceeding six months, with no visa sponsorship.

Qualifications

• One year of highway maintenance experience or as Highway Maintenance Worker I in Nevada.
• Ability to operate a variety of heavy equipment listed in the duties.
• Knowledge of safety policies and training others.
• Capability to install traffic markings and signage.
• Respond to emergencies and adverse weather conditions.
• Experience with Maintenance Management System usage.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain highway maintenance equipment (snowplows, graders, backhoes).
• Perform routine maintenance on road surfaces, shoulders, and drainage facilities.
• Install, repair, and replace roadway signs and signposts; repair lighting fixtures.
• Respond to accidents and incidents; complete required reports.
• Maintain traffic controls in work zones and during emergencies.
• Assist in winter anti-icing, salting, and snow removal operations.
• Train and supervise certified operators as needed.
• Monitor contract compliance and quality control for contractor work.
