Job summary

Cook Children's Health Care System is seeking a Patient Access Specialist I for the weekend shift at the Medical Center in Fort Worth. The role focuses on patient registration, establishing positive relationships with patients and families, and clearly explaining legal and compliance documents.

No direct patient care is provided, and familiarity with revenue cycle concepts is valued. The position requires a High School Diploma or equivalent and about 1 year of healthcare office or hospital

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• 1 year of Healthcare experience in a physician office or hospital setting.
• Strong customer service skills.
• Understanding of the revenue cycle and all appropriate financial resources for patients.
• Knowledge of JCAHO, Patient Rights and Responsibilities, HIPAA, HMOs, PPOs, Commercial Payers and all tasks performed in the various Patient Access Service areas.
• Detail oriented.
• Professional and clear communication.
• Working knowledge of computer skills.
• Basic understanding of insurance benefits especially in-network vs out of network and co-insurance versus co-pay.
• Basic ability to balance cash reports.
• Basic understanding of legal paperwork.
• Basic typing/keyboarding.
• Insurance experience preferred

Responsibilities

• Provide access to hospital and clinic services and facilitate patient registration flow.
• Explain and present legal, ethical and compliance documents to patients and families.
• Maintain positive patient/family relationships during the registration process.
• Operate in a patient care area without providing direct patient care.
