RK&K is seeking a highly motivated Structural Project Engineer to join our municipal infrastructure team in Columbia, SC. You will take ownership of structural design scopes, lead technical tasks, and collaborate across disciplines from concept through construction.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering with a structural focus.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license.
• 4+ years of structural engineering experience, with a focus on environmental and building-type structures.
• Proficiency applying building design codes and standards: IBC, ASCE 7, ACI 318, ACI 350, AISC 360, TMS 402/602.
• Proficiency with structural analysis and design software (e.g., STAAD.Pro, RISA-3D, RAM).
• Strong understanding of lateral load paths (wind/seismic) and liquid-retaining concrete design.
• Strong technical writing, communication, and task management skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform structural analysis and design of existing and new reinforced concrete, masonry, steel, stainless steel, and aluminum structures, including shallow and deep foundations.
• Prepare structural design calculations, plans, specifications, and construction documents for water/wastewater municipal projects.
• Perform quality control (QC) reviews of design deliverables, ensuring compliance with building codes and client requirements.
• Take independent ownership of routine structural design tasks while collaborating with senior engineers on complex systems.
• Coordinate structural systems with process, geotechnical, architectural, mechanical, electrical, and civil disciplines to resolve project constraints.
• Participate in project progress meetings and assist in preparing technical materials.
• Provide technical support during construction, including review of shop drawings, RFIs, and field observations.
• Conduct site investigations and condition assessments, forensic evaluations, and structural condition inspections.
