Job summary

Duke Energy offers an engineering internship in the Waste and Groundwater Programs group within Environmental, Health, and Safety. You will work on real-world projects and learn from experienced engineers, supporting regulatory compliance across generating facilities.

The role focuses on office-based technical work with potential site interaction in locations across the footprint. The internship runs for 10–12 weeks in Summer 2027, with hybrid/onsite opportunities and a housing stipend where

Qualifications

• Enrolled in ABET-accredited Bachelor’s or Master’s in Civil, Chemical, or Environmental Engineering.
• Must not graduate before August 2027.
• Cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher.
• GPA of 3.2 or higher preferred.
• Proficiency in CAD tools, MFAD, STAAD Pro, MATLAB, PSS/E, Power World.
• Previous engineering work experience.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Demonstrated leadership and teamwork abilities.

Responsibilities

• Assist environmental professionals with data review and management, reports, and regulatory submittals.
• Support waste characterization, disposal activities, and compliance documentation.
• Coordinate with laboratories, site personnel, consultants, and regulators.
• Contribute to continuous-improvement initiatives within the Waste and Groundwater Programs.
