Job summary

Duke Energy invites engineering students to join the Waste and Groundwater Programs within Environmental, Health, and Safety as interns for the summer. You will work on real-world projects, review data, and assist with regulatory submittals while learning from seasoned engineers.

Qualifications

• Enrolled and pursuing an ABET-accredited Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil, Chemical, and/or Environmental Engineering
• Must not graduate prior to August 2027
• Cumulative college GPA of 2.75 or higher
• Demonstrated technical proficiency in use of computers, software, and engineering applications (CAD tools, MFAD, STAAD Pro, MATLAB, PSS/E, Power World)
• Previous engineering work experience
• Demonstrated excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Demonstrated leadership qualities through effective decision making.
• Works effectively with others from diverse backgrounds to achieve common goal.

Responsibilities

• Assist environmental professionals with review and management of analytical and compliance data
• Prepare reports, plans, procedures, and regulatory submittals
• Evaluate monitoring results and coordinate with laboratories, site personnel, consultants, and regulatory agencies
• Support waste characterization and disposal activities, records reviews, permit and regulatory assessments
• Contribute to continuous-improvement initiatives; office-based technical work; interaction with state and federal agency representatives
