Job summary

Ryder System, Inc. is seeking a Lead Engineer to drive Continuous Improvement across our Providence, RI operations. You will lead data-driven CI, apply engineering methods, & leverage Ryder lean tools to boost safety, quality, delivery, and cost performance.

You will coach teams, manage CI projects, analyze processes with PowerBI/Tableau, and support automation initiatives. This role reports to CI leadership and collaborates with operations leaders.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, or Supply Chain with 7+ years in Warehousing/Transportation/Manufacturing; or Master’s with 5+ years; MBA requires undergrad in Engineering.
• 7+ years in Warehousing & Transportation and/or Manufacturing.
• Microsoft Office Suite with emphasis on Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio (expert).
• Data visualization (PowerBI, Tableau) and database programming (SQL, DAX).
• Proficiency in Leader Standard Work, Visual Management Systems, PDCA, VSM, Kaizen, and 5S/Lean.
• Knowledge of core engineering/data analysis: slotting, labor planning, layouts, metrics.
• Knowledge of warehouse design tools (CAD) and WMS; labor management systems; automation concepts.
• Knowledge of Dedicated Services and Managed Transportation Networks; various equipment types.
• Lean Six Sigma; cpMP/ISO/QMS preferred; APICS/Supply Chain certs preferred.

Responsibilities

• Collects data and performs statistical analysis; maps processes and identifies gaps; implements CI plans to improve safety, quality, delivery, cost and growth.
• Manages high-impact CI projects; supports start-ups, retrofits, expansions; interfaces with account management/customers.
• Coaches employees in CI/QA/Lean; applies methodologies to improve distribution and transportation operations.
• May supervise CI engineering and quality professionals; assists in hiring and performance management.
• Facilitates Value Stream Maps and Kaizen Events through all stages; sustains results with lean methods.
• Provides regular data-driven progress reports and makes inventory/supply chain strategy recommendations.
