Job summary

LPL Financial seeks a Vice President of AI Governance to own the firm’s enterprise AI governance strategy and provide authoritative oversight across the AI lifecycle.

This leader will establish governance framework, risk standards, decision rights, and oversight to enable responsible AI adoption while protecting the firm, clients, and regulatory standing. The role interfaces with senior executives and governance committees.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Risk Management, Finance, Law, Public Policy, or related discipline.
• 10+ years of technology risk, model risk, AI governance, cybersecurity, data risk, compliance, audit, or related control discipline in regulated industry.
• 5+ years of direct experience reviewing, governing, validating, auditing, implementing, or overseeing AI/ML or model-based solutions.
• Experience challenging AI solutions at architecture, model, data, and control levels with explanations of risk origins and controls.
• Proven experience establishing enterprise governance, risk, or control framework, not just advising on one.

Responsibilities

• Own and evolve the enterprise AI Governance Framework, including policies, standards, risk taxonomy, and escalation protocols.
• Set the strategic direction and target operating model for AI governance, translating regulatory developments into practical requirements.
• Provide independent review and credible challenge of AI/ML use cases across architectures, models, data, and controls.
• Evaluate AI solutions for architecture, data lineage, security, third-party risk, and operating processes to identify material risks and gaps.
• Challenge business and technical owners on data suitability, model behavior, testing, validation, and risk acceptance.
• Chair or lead enterprise AI governance forums and document decisions, exceptions, and remediation actions clearly.
• Advise executive leadership with concise recommendations on whether AI capabilities should proceed under defined conditions.
• Define accountability across Business, Technology, InfoSec, Data Governance, Privacy, Legal, Compliance, and Audit.
• Define meaningful KPIs and executive reporting showing AI exposure, control effectiveness, and program maturity.
• Oversee regulatory examinations and independent reviews, translating gaps into remediation plans.
• Build and lead a high-performing AI governance team with technical fluency and disciplined oversight.
• Promote responsible innovation with governance that balances risk and progress.
