Job summary

University of Nebraska-Lincoln invites applications for the Assistant Program Coordinator (Part-Time or Full-Time) to support the VITA program across Nebraska. You will work with TCAN and the Program Coordinator to ensure accurate tax preparation, client service, and community outreach.

You will learn IRS certifications and grow towards independently managing VITA sites, with a focus on training volunteers, supervising site operations, and maintaining compliance throughout tax season.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or years of relevant experience may substitute on a year-for-year basis.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to pass an IRS suitability check and maintain tax compliance.
• Experience using Microsoft Office applications.
• Must have a valid driver’s license and meet University driver eligibility requirements.
• Must have ability to travel throughout Nebraska using a personal vehicle with mileage reimbursement.
• Ability to work evenings and weekends as required during tax season.
• Ability to transport, set up, and take down program equipment and supplies.
• Ability to obtain all required IRS VITA certifications
• Ability to maintain all required IRS VITA certifications

Responsibilities

• Support the Tax Credit Alliance of Nebraska (TCAN) VITA program through tax site operations, volunteer support, tax preparation, client services, inventory management, and community outreach.
• Learn all aspects of the VITA program, including tax law, site operations, volunteer support, client services, and community engagement.
• Obtain and maintain IRS certifications and progressively develop skills to independently support and manage VITA sites.
• Work with the Program Coordinator to ensure high-quality tax preparation services are available to eligible individuals and families in Nebraska.
