Responsibilities

While this position provides virtual patient companion services to the patients of CommonSpirit Health across the United States, it must be performed on-site at our Phoenix AZ Virtual Hospital located at 3033 N. 3rd Avenue.

Virtual Patient Companion

Working as a Patient Companion is a rewarding career that allows you to help people in need across the United States in a 24/7 virtual call center environment. As part of our specialized team at CommonSpirit Health's Virtual Hospital in Phoenix, AZ, this role involves monitoring high-risk patients identified for safety concerns such as falls, elopement, drug/alcohol use, disorientation, or pulling out lines/tubes, across 140+ hospitals in 21 states. Compassionate individuals who are comfortable communicating with emotionally distressed or stressed patients will excel. The role requires maintaining calmness under stress, responding effectively, and ensuring patient safety and comfort.

What You'll Do

1. Use live streaming video and two-way communication tools to monitor assigned patients remotely, acting as the eyes and ears for onsite care teams.
2. Recognize behavioral changes and determine whether they are emergencies, initiating appropriate communication or reporting to onsite staff.
3. Engage with patients through observation and active listening, providing reassurance or escalation as needed.
4. Serve as a communication link for patients' questions or concerns, ensuring their safety and comfort.
5. Document observations, actions, and any incidents accurately in the system.

Work Requirements

• Ability to recognize signs of patient agitation, impulsiveness, or substance use.
• Capability to follow protocols for notifying staff and maintaining effective communication.
• Knowledge of or ability to learn hospital procedures, equipment, and terminology.

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor patients continuously via video platforms and communicate with care staff as needed.
• Report any camera issues or patient safety concerns promptly.
• Identify behavioral or health changes, document findings, and escalate when necessary.

Qualifications

Required

• High school diploma or equivalent plus 3 years recent patient care experience, or completion of fundamentals of nursing and clinical practice in RN school.

Preferred

• Current certification/license such as Nursing Assistant, Medical Assistant, EMT, or enrollment in a healthcare program.

Pay Range

$17.12 - $23.54 per hour
