Responsibilities

This position is responsible for monitoring patients identified as high risk for falls, elopement, illicit drug or alcohol use, disorientation, pulling out lines/tubes, and other concerns. The Travel Patient Companion oversees patients across multiple CommonSpirit Health facilities nationwide, using live non-recorded streaming video to ensure patient safety and appropriate interaction. As a travel patient companion, you will have opportunities to travel within the system to support staffing needs.

Work Requirements

• Recognize signs of agitation, impulsiveness, and substance use.
• Follow protocols to notify staff of safety concerns.
• Maintain effective communication with patients and staff.
• Report behavioral changes and escalate as needed.
• Learn and understand relevant procedures, equipment, and terminology.
• Monitor patients via video platforms and telecommunication tools.
• Adhere to communication channels and protocols in routine and emergency situations.
• Strive to improve department metrics.
• Uphold the core values of CommonSpirit Health.
• Observe patients via streaming video and hospital observation platforms.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• At least 2 years of recent experience in patient care (e.g., CNA, Unit Clerk, MA, LVN).
• Current Nursing Assistant Certification.
• Completion of the competency-based Virtual Companion training at CommonSpirit Health.
• Ability to learn the operation of streaming video monitoring equipment.

Pay Range

$25.00 - $81.25 per hour.
